yume, what the fuck is niumo?
only one of the greatest anime ships of all time, dear user.
let me explain! stay with me now. i know they look silly. but you gotta trust me on this one
shingo umoregi + mephisto ii - messiah and his first apostle
the name "niumo," like many ship names, is the combination of the names of the characters involved. in this case, mephisto the second (NIsei) and shingo UMOregi, from the akuma-kun 1989 anime series.
shingo umoregi is "akuma-kun," a messianic being born once every 10,000 years. as the messiah, he and his demonic apostles make a contract to drive out an evil force threatening both humans and demons alike. his first apostle, the spoiled ramen-addicted prince mephisto ii, is the de facto leader of the group in shingo's absence-- and is also shingo's most trusted friend. while they don't exactly start off on the best terms, shingo quickly earns mephisto ii's trust and by episode 14 mephisto ii is fully prepared to beat ass when shingo is incapacitated.
there are 42 episodes of this show. you can probably already imagine how their bond only grows stronger...!
they embody many classic ship tropes-- best friends to lovers, loyal servant x master, nonhuman x human, predator x prey... and yet they are entirely unique among ships of their kind.
